Meet Kathy

Kathy Szamocki studied Voice Performance at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and completed additional coursework to receive the K-12 comprehensive music teaching certificate from The Music Conservatory at Roosevelt University, formerly The Chicago College of Performing Arts.

Since 1993, Kathy has taught general and choral music, directed musicals, adjudicated for solo/ensemble, NATS and organizational contests and taught private voice in public schools and in her home studio. Technique taught is classically-based and tailored to the strengths and goals of each student. Typical goals include improving alignment, support and breath management, increasing range, smoothing registers, working on belt and strengthening head voice, diction, foreign language diction, song presentation/expression, and an overall goal of improving confidence through both lessons and performance.

Primarily working with high school students, lessons consist of technique and repertoire study to include classical, folk, sacred and musical theater. Audition preparation for solos, roles, contests, competitions and college auditions are woven into lessons as well as sight-singing, music reading and music theory as needed and desired by the student. Regular recital opportunities and auditions through NATS are offered regularly. A soprano with the Chicago Master Singers from 1999-2017, Kathy brings a vast amount of singing experience to the studio and enjoys collaborating with local choral conductors to supplement and support the singers in their programs. Kathy truly enjoys the relationships that develop with students through voice lessons and a shared love of music and singing.

Testimonials

I wanted to send a thank you for your time and coaching with Presley last night. She couldn’t say enough about you and all the help you gave her. Especially the things she needs to do during the audition. We wish we lived closer to you to be able to set up voice lessons moving forward.

– Julie T

Working with Mrs. Szamocki has been not only a delight but one of the most helpful and transformative experiences of my vocal career. She is always ready with helpful feedback and is engaged and involved in my singing, and helped me improve astronomically! 10/10 would highly recommend!!!

– Peyton Baisden

All three of my children have attended vocal lessons with Mrs. Szamocki. They have not only acquired and advanced their musical skills, but gained another adult who has mentored them and is actively interested in their life. I highly recommend vocal lessons for any child with a passion for music and Mrs. Szamocki is the best teacher to help them on their journey.

– Mary Y.

Thank you so much for all you have done for Bridgett in the course of working with her. Your dedication, knowledge, and enthusiasm for music and teaching is much appreciated and will always be remembered.

– Alison R.
